Lumbini World School organised an excursion to Lumbini on Tuesday, 9th Falgun 2079 and engaged the students from Grades Four to Seven in a range of educational activities.
The students travelled to Lumbini, a widely acclaimed sacred place known as the birth place of Gautam Buddha, and attended a meditation session that bequeathed them a brief history of Buddhism, Buddhist philosophy and Buddha’s teachings. The students were very hopeful that they would gather information, facts and explore the history of Buddhism deeply. Their surmise turned into reality since they visited Maya Devi Temple and witnessed Gautam Buddha’s first step after his birth that’s been imprinted on a stone. A bit of miracle for young leaners! They asked the teachers if their first step had the same foot impression. The teachers responded that they should inquire with their parents if they have preserved their first step print at home and suggested they come with an answer the following day.
The visit intensively connected multidisciplinary aspects of learning of different subjects, such as Nepali, English, Social Studies, Mathematics and Science with students’ classroom learning since they visited the Maya Devi Temple, Ashoka Tower, Eternal Flame, World Peace Pagoda and various monasteries and collected archaeological and historical facts about these domains.
LWS believes it’s worth connecting ideas through observation and hands-on activities in order to strengthen students’ learning efficiency, which is deeply rooted in the school philosophy, “Learning by Doing”.
