Lumbini World School (LWS) has organised an interaction session with a group of acclaimed mathematicians from the USA and Nepal. Before this, the former Vice-chancellor of TU and Mathematics Faculty, Dr. Hira Bahadur Maharjan along with his team had visited the school on 30th Jestha 2080.
On 31st Jestha, a team of mathematicians from Mathkind USA was welcomed by LWS School Academic Leadership Team (SALT) for their time and efforts to hold an intensive interaction session at LWS in which teachers took an opportunity to enquire about mathematics conundrums with the experts.
The formal opening of the programme was done by Vice-principal, Mr. Ramesh Mani Suvedi who welcomed the visiting members to the event. The principal, Mr. Bishnu Pd. Dhakal honoured the guests with scarfs (khadas). The Director of Mathkind, USA Mr. Chadd Maglene shared with the teaching team of LWS international practices of teaching mathematics to young children, especially in the USA. Similarly, other guests, Mr. Jimmy McCue, Mr. Steve from Mathkind, and Bhesh Mainali from Rider University, USA spoke on student centric mathematics learning where children figure out the answers themselves without the intervention of teachers. He also discussed a range of understanding skills and competencies of students which teachers must identify and aspire to explore their own unique capabilities. After their experience sharing, a school tour was organised for the visitors who would observe each classroom and leave feedback. They expressed their astonishment and said they were happy to visit an amazing progressive school in Lumbini Province.
A session was allocated for highlighting key features of LWS, which was facilitated by Dr. Min Prasad Khanal, followed by a presentation by Ms. Bibita Lamichhane (a homeroom teacher of grade two) on hands-on activities and student-engaging teaching and learning in the classroom.
The school had organised a Lumbini tour for the visitors before this main event.
A vote of thanks was given by the school principal. The event was followed by snacks.
LWS will have a collaboration with Mathkind, USA for Design and Thinking (Innovation and Design) programme. The school also discussed with the team the possibility of student-exchange programmes in the USA in the future.
